If the portal's Editor column says Classic but Settings is Block, set Editor back to Classic (deprecated) and retry. Or convert that portal to Block and upload from the block copy.
Can't edit a Classic portal or upload files after the Editor setting changed
Your Client Portal Editor setting must match the editor type of the portal you are editing. If Settings is set to Block but the portal still says Classic (or the reverse), the admin editor can break: modules are hard to change, file uploads can fail, and saves can look wrong. Clients still see the live portal; this mainly affects how you edit it in WordPress.
Check for a mismatch
Confirm the portal type and the site-wide setting before you change anything else.
Go to Client Portal > Portals.
Find the portal in the list and check the Editor column (Classic or Block).
Go to Client Portal > Settings.
Under Editor, see whether the setting is Block or Classic (deprecated).
If those two do not match, fix the mismatch before you keep editing that portal.
Fix it
Choose the path that matches what you want to do next.
Keep editing Classic portals for now
Use this when your portals still show Classic and you are not ready to migrate.
Go to Client Portal > Settings.
Set Editor to Classic (deprecated).
Click Save Changes.
Open the Classic portal again and retry the edit or upload.
Move to the block editor
Use this when you want Block as the setting and the portals should be Block too. Follow Move your portals from the Classic editor to the block editor: convert each Classic portal, check the block copy, then move clients over.
How the setting can change without you noticing
If your Editor setting was still Classic (deprecated), the first click of Convert to block editor only switches Settings to Block. It does not convert any portal. Your Classic portals stay Classic until you click Convert to block editor again on each one.
That mid-migration state is a common reason people suddenly cannot edit Classic portals or upload files, even when nobody changed Settings by hand.
We recommend finishing the move to the block editor when you can. New Client Portal features ship for the block editor only, and Classic support ends on the dates in the migration article.
Common symptoms
I can't upload files in a portal (or WordPress shows an unexpected server response)
The portal editor looks wrong, modules are hard to edit, or changes don't stick
Match the Settings Editor value to the portal's Editor column, then reopen the portal. If you already started migrating, either finish converting or switch Settings back to Classic until you're ready.
Clients see a permission-style error after I edited a portal
Confirm the portal type and Settings still match, then save the portal again in the matching editor. If you were mid-migration, finish moving clients over only after the block copy looks right.
